California is a substantial contributor to the world's production of processed tomato products, and dominates the nation's processed tomato products. With a current industry capacity of over 13 million tons, the state processes just over a quarter of the world’s supply of tomato products.

Fifteen primary processors operate sixteen plants located throughout the central valley of California. Two additional CLFP member processors manufacture sun-dried, frozen, and dehydrated tomato products.

Our member tomato processors include every full-line canner of branded tomato products, every private label manufacturer, and every participant in the industrial tomato business, manufacturing paste and bulk diced tomatoes.

Bin Return Manual

Damage to tomato bins during return transit is common, adding to costs across the supply chain. Stacking patterns and loading guidelines can vary by company, which can generate confusion among workers and logistical problems for the receivers. To address this issue, CLFP processor members developed a set of voluntary best practices that can be employed by buyers to minimize bin return damage, improve operating efficiency, and reduce costs to the mutual benefit of both buyers and processors.

Bulk Container Diced Tomato Procedures (May 2007)

The CLFP Diced Tomato Subcommittee completed its development of suggested definitions and procedures for sampling and determining certain attributes for bulk container diced tomatoes. These include Sampling Procedure, Sampler, Percent Drain Weight, Percent Drain Weight, Character, and Texture/Firmness.

These procedures are the result of a consensus of members of the CLFP Diced Tomato Committee regarding suggested definitions and procedures for diced tomato packed in bulk containers.
