California League of Food Processors 9 ■ ■ Western EIM expansion – The ISO’s Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) already has generated significant benefits to its eight participants, including the ISO. EIM, the first of its kind in the Western United States, is a real-time whole- sale energy trading market that enables participants any- where in the West to buy and sell energy. Since launching in 2014, the EIM has used its advanced market systems to find the lowest-cost energy to serve its eight participants in a wide geographic area. So far, gross cost savings have been pegged at more than $400 million.
