The meeting, held April 21-22 in San Francisco, included industry speakers, issues updates and the election of a new slate of officers, with Burt Fleischer of the Hilmar Cheese Company elected as CLFP’s 2016-17 chair. Other 2016-17 CLFP officers elected at the annual meeting were Janet Edwards of the Musco Family Olive Co. as first vice chair and Tim Nelson of the Seneca Foods Corporation as second vice chair. Outgoing Chair Greg Estep, Olam Spices &Vegetable Ingredients, will continue as immediate past chair. CLFP members continuing on the CLFP Executive Committee for the 2015-17 term include Nick Kastle of Mooney Star Farms, LLC, P.J. Mecozzi of Del Mar Food Products, Reuben Peterson of Los Gatos Tomato Products, Chris Rufer of The Morningstar Packing Co. and Doug Reifsteck of Bell-Carter Foods, Inc. Executive Committee members elected for terms 2016-2018 are Michael Mariani of the Mariani Packing Co., Inc., Andrew Howe of the Horizon Nut Company, Dave Johnson of the J.G. Boswell Tomato Co. LLC, Randy Rickert of Mizkan America, Ross Siragusa of The Kraft Heinz Company and Melvin Ward of Sunsweet Growers. During the meeting, the CLFP board approved $32,000 in funds for its 2016 scholarship program. The amount includes $2,500 for a new CLFP scholarship called the Food Industry Leadership Scholarship, which will be awarded to a student interested in pursuing a degree and career in the food processing industry. CLFP Annual Meeting 2016 NEW CLFP CHAIR BURT FLEISCHER Fleischer has served as the environmental director of the Hilmar Cheese Company since 2006, and Hilmar Cheese has been a member of CLFP since 2008. Hilmar Cheese is a family owned company privately held by 11 dairy fami- lies. Based in Hilmar, Calif., it also has a manufacturing fa- cility in Dalhart, Texas. Hilmar consists of two companies - Hilmar Cheese Company and Hilmar Ingredients. Hilmar is the world’s largest single site cheese and whey manu- facturing operation, and its products are available in more than 50 countries. “The opportunity to serve as CLFP’s chair for the next year presents challenging opportunities as CLFP continues to be in the forefront representing the issues and concerns facing the food products industry in California,”Fleischer said.
