SALES/APPLICATIONS ENGINEER

 

PURPOSE:

Summarize briefly the major function and purpose of the position.

Training for an Application Engineering position.  Technically aids the sales force, customers and potential customers in an effort to support machinery, parts and service sales.

 

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

What are the minimum qualifications an employee must have in order to perform the duties of the position? (I.e. educational requirements, licenses, certification, work experience, training etc.)?

This position requires a four-year BS or BA degree in Engineering (ME, EE or AE), Industrial Technology or Food Science. 

  • Proficient with a PC and MS Office software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Good technical writing skills.
  • Ability to present ideas and information clearly and concisely, either to individuals or to a large group.
  • Ability to read, interpret and prepare technical drawings.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.  Electrical/controls knowledge/experience is a plus.
  • Effective organization, problem solving and prioritization skills.
  • Strong work ethic and sense of urgency
  • Self motivated
  • Creative/Innovative
  • Positive/enthusiastic attitude and willingness to change/adapt

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Describe general working conditions (i.e. noise level, temperature, around heavy machinery)

Approximately 60 to 80% of all work is performed in an office setting while the remaining 20 to 40% will be spent on the shop floor or at customer sites performing machinery testing/data gathering or sales assistance duties.  Extended periods of time may be required at a computer terminal, or may be out in the field learning about our products and customers.  Possible exposure to hazards such as noise; heavy equipment; temperature extremes; chemicals; etc.; while working in shop assembly areas or while performing field duties.   

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Describe amount & frequency of physical requirements of the position (i.e. lifting, pushing, climbing)

This position requires frequent sitting and operation of computer with use of a keyboard, mouse, and terminal screen.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stand; vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY AREAS:

Duties and Responsibilities

E

  • Prepare basic machinery, machinery rebuild, parts and/or service proposals under the supervision of the Technical Application Engineering Manager, another assigned Application Engineering colleague, or Sales personnel.

  • Create simple drawings and specifications by using CAD to make equipment layouts.

E

  • Assist sales and customers with technical questions that may require research, and consultation with other colleagues, departments and/or FMC FoodTech divisions.

  • Assist Sales with gathering technical/product information in preparation for presentations:
    • Gather and send product literature to sales force or directly to customers
    • Help prepare technical presentations

E

  • Learn about machinery application and functionality, including:
    • Testing, evaluating and gathering data on prototypes and products, and putting together detailed but organized reports on findings/results.
    • Provide recommendations about possible improvements

 

  • Assist with the proper sizing, assignment of specifications and pricing in order to generate accurate and informative machinery, machine rebuild, parts and/or service proposals.

·         Provide technical assistance to the sales force or direct to customers as needed.
