DESIGN/MECHANICAL ENGINEER

 

PURPOSE:

Summarize briefly the major function and purpose of the position.

Creates drawings, DBI’s (Data Base Instructions) specifications.  Operates within local organization and accomplishes work within existing systems and under supervision.  Performs basic technical observations, analysis and modification of simple components.

 

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

What are the minimum qualifications an employee must have in order to perform the duties of the position? (I.e. educational requirements, licenses, certification, work experience, training etc.)?

This position will require a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.  Typically zero years experience.  Must have basic understanding of Engineering practices, design methods and calculations.  Have the ability to read, interpret and prepare applicable technical information and suggest design/process changes to ensure simple, functional and cost effective results.  Have knowledge of trends and economic conditions affecting the technical field.

 

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

What additional training will an employee require to continue to perform the duties of the position?

Behavioral based safety program and take required FMC training course as outlined in the Engineering Training Assessment Plan.  Syteline, Pro-E, AutoCad.

 

RELATIONSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:

Indicate positions that report directly to this position.   Number of direct / indirect reports.

None

Indicate internal/external contacts and purpose of contacts.

Solicits assistance from more experienced technical professionals and supervisor.  Works with sales, service, methods, and production departments to help define customer communications, but minimal customer contact.  Communicate and interact effectively with manufacturing to deal with design changes.  Respectful to others, open to other’s viewpoints, listen effectively. 

 

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITY:

Indicate budget/revenue responsibility.

Explain the degree of supervision/guidance, procedures/ processes used, judgment, creativity, planning & resourcefulness needed to do the job.

Receives detailed instructions and guidance through design steps for routine projects.  Demonstrates awareness of policies and procedures that affect specific job assignments.

How are errors detected and what is possible impact of those errors?

Findings are most often summarized and reported to others for further analysis.  Work, progress and results are reviewed for accuracy, completeness and soundness of judgment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Create drawings, DBI’s specifications, BOMs, and utilizing Syteline business system.

E

Read, interpret and prepare applicable technical information and suggest design/process changes to ensure simple, functional and cost effective results.

Assignments often involve basic technical observations, analysis and modification of simple components. 

E

Methods follow application of basic scientific/engineering principles and specific procedures.

E

May participate in product standardization and R&D activities.

E

Show evidence of good organization skills.

May be required to travel to various FMC and/or customers’ sites inside and outside of the U.S.
